My Story of Recovery

I am a 35-year-old woman who has been clean and sober for 5 years. I used to be a shoplifter, and I struggled with addiction for many years. I know firsthand how difficult it can be to overcome an addiction, but I also know that it is possible.

I started shoplifting when I was 15 years old. I was a good kid, but I was also very insecure and felt like I didn’t belong. Shoplifting gave me a sense of power and control that I didn’t have in other areas of my life.

I got away with it for a long time. I was careful and never got caught. But eventually, my luck ran out. I was caught shoplifting from a department store and arrested.

I was shocked. I didn’t think of myself as a criminal. But I was also relieved. I knew that I needed help.

I went to court and was sentenced to probation. I also started attending a shoplifting recovery program.

The program helped me to understand why I shoplifted and how to overcome my addiction. I learned that shoplifting was a way for me to cope with my insecurities and low self-esteem. I also learned that I could find happiness and fulfillment in other ways, such as building healthy relationships and pursuing my interests.

It wasn’t easy to overcome my addiction. There were many times when I wanted to give up. But I kept going, and eventually, I succeeded.

It’s been five years since I last shoplifted. I’m grateful for the recovery program that helped me to get my life back on track. I’m also grateful for the people who supported me through my recovery.

If you are struggling with a shoplifting addiction, I encourage you to seek help. There is hope. You can overcome your addiction and live a happy and fulfilling life.
